HOTEL de LONDRES EIFFEL - our home away from home.
OUR NEIGHBORHOOD and RUE CLER:
We arrived one day early to adjust to the time zone change. After check-in, we walked to the Champs de Mars, a public park that leads
to the base of the Eiffel Tower. We found ourselves returning to this magnificent steel structure over and over again, day and night.
The view of the Eiffel Tower from the Place du Trocadero (across the bridge) is awesome! It's a great place from which to take pictures!
Being hungry, we made our way to Rue Cler, a traffic-free street full of bakeries, cafes, chocolatiers, cheese and wine shops.
According to Rick Steves' Paris 2019 guidebook (page 201) a walk through this area is to experience "The Art of Parisian Living".
All you have to do is go outside your apartment's door - and voila - everything is at your fingertips! One street shopping!
You can even buy eye glasses, have prescriptions filled at the pharmacy, and mail letters at the local post office.
We envied the ease at which people could share a meal/wine/conversation with family and friends every day of the week.
Anxious to eat a French meal, we went from one restaurant to another reading the menus.
At Le Roussillon, the owner actually came outside to tell us that the Boeuf Bourguignon was his mother's recipe, and invited us in.
It was a fine meal! The red wine wasn't bad either!
On our way back to the hotel, we bought the pear tarte and strawberry custard pastry shown below . YUMMY!
